Survey Examines Job Preferences of 2008 Medical Residents and Fellows

With an impending physician shortage and a generation of aging baby boomers, medical facilities must stay informed about the best ways to reach and recruit physicians. Pinnacle Health Group decided to go directly to one pool of candidates and solicit their feedback about job preferences. These physicians-in-training are the future leaders in medicine. Their values, communication methods and interests offer insight on how to recruit and retain them at your facilities.

Results for the first of three surveys are in.

Expectations vary about the timeframe for the interview process but other matters gained consensus.

The majority wants more guidance related to making a good job choice. Specifically, they are eager to understand employment contracts and compensation profit structures.

And it is no surprise: Email is the unanimous choice for method of contact regarding job opportunities.

Participants were contacted by email invitation and data was collected from 513 respondents. The online survey consisted of four multiple-choice questions, two of which allowed for “other” write-in responses.

Tables 1-4 provide the detailed results.
