Pinnacle Health Group (PHG), one of the nation’s largest full-service physician recruitment and placement firms, supported the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s 6th annual “Light The Night” walk on October 9, 2004. The walk was held at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta, Georgia.
“Light The Night” is an annual event that celebrates and honors lives that have been touched by cancer. Participants include friends, coworkers, and families from all over the country. Walkers gather in teams and walk in the evening carrying softly lit balloons. Survivors of cancer hold white balloons while supporters carry red balloons.
Pinnacle Health Group’s Vice President of Marketing, Heath Ponder, is a member of the executive committee of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and helped plan and participate in this year’s “Light The Night.” Last year, the state of Georgia raised over $400,000. Commenting on last weekend’s fund-raising efforts Heath said, “our early tally puts us at raising over $800,000!”
Heath further comments that “donations and support will go to fund research and patient support for those individuals suffering from blood-related cancers.” Cancer is a virulent disease and one of the leading causes of death. In the United States alone, over 617,000 people have leukemia, Hodgkin’s disease, and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and myeloma.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was founded in 1949 and is the fastest growing nonprofit health agency in the United States. Seventy-six percent of every dollar received is used for cancer research, education, and advocacy and patient services.
